Next, simply connect to this Wi-Fi hotspot in your phone settings. Switching to a manual Wi-Fi connection often proved to be the better option. The Bluetooth part worked fine – my iPhone asked if I wanted to turn Wi-Fi on and connect with the S1 – but then, like the initial set-up, the Wi-Fi connection hung for a minute or so before giving up. Following the very simple and straightforward instructions given in the Lumix Sync app, it took me multiple attempts to connect the camera and phone over Wi-Fi. The connection that is created allows the smart device to be able to pair quickly and stay connected where necessary for transferring small volumes of data, such as current time or GPS coordinates. It is recommended to use the Panasonic Image App for those and other Lumix cameras supporting wireless connectivity. The small amount you need to pay for the hardware will easily outweigh the hassle and bad quality you get from using software to do the same.

Personal Hotspot requires a wireless carrier that supports Personal Hotspot. You can also try turning on Maximize Compatibility in Personal Hotspot settings. Future support for other camera models and MacOS compatibility is not mentioned in the Panasonic announcement. Once installed, the Windows-only Beta adds a “display option” that will let you turn off all of the distracting overlays like the focus box and other settings, so that you can output a clean video feed over USB.

• Lumix Tether typically supports the tethering of one camera at a time per instance of the software.
• Users must remember that LUMIX Tether is a software program originally designed for tethered shooting, so GUIs such as a focus area mark as well as control panels are displayed with live view images on the PC monitor during USB tethering.
